Vision Direct Launches Online Tool To Help Everyone Understand Various Eye Conditions

Vision Direct has just released a brand new Internet tool to inform GPs and citizens about different eye diseases and how to combat them. In addition to informing the professionals and the general public, the staff at Vision Direct hopes their new Internet tool will encourage people to get an annual eye exam.

Just a few of the eye conditions detailed on Vision Direct's list include myopia, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, hyperopia, colour blindness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Vision Direct has provided visual representations that show how the world looks to patients with different eye disease. There are also pictures of the inner eye and descriptions on what's going on inside the eyeball for each disease. The summaries listed by each eye condition detail some of the causes and symptoms of each disease.

People using this tool can easily move from one slide to the next by either by clicking one of the green arrows or clicking a slide on the bottom. Vision Direct has made it easy to compare and contrast different visual conditions by placing slides side by side. There is also one slide that details what normal vision is and how a normal eye functions to help GPs understand what goes wrong inside the eyes of a person with a visual condition.

Vision Direct's current COO, Brendan O'Brien, told reporters that he hopes this tool will serve as a reference tool for GPs around the world. He also believes this information can really encourage people in the U.K. to get an eye exam done in the near future.

O'Brien, who is a registered optician himself, was shocked to discover 8 percent of adults in the U.K. admit that they haven't gone to the eye doctor within 10 years time. This particular study came out in 2013 from the College of Optometrists. Optometrists note that the only way to successfully treat many eye diseases is to catch them early and begin treatment right away.

Vision Direct's online tool is completely free and open to the general public. The staff at Vision Direct encourages anyone interested in eye care and/or eye anatomy to check out their professionally designed Internet tool.

Over the years, Vision Direct has become one of the leading retailers in the contact lens and glasses space. Just a few of the names in Vision Direct's extensive catalogue include Air Optix, Dailies, and Biofinity. As of today, Vision Direct has sent over six million products to happy customers in both the U.K. and North America.
